PAT Testing Regulations
Have you ever seen the little green label stuck on an appliance in an office or when you are out at the shops? This is the PAT Test pass sticker which means that the appliance is safe to use according to the PAT Testing Regulations. The PAT Testing Regulations affect all businesses in the UK, as such the demand for qualified electricians who can undertake PAT testing is quite high.
PAT Testing, otherwise known as Portable Appliance Testing, was set up to adhere to a number of health and safety responsibilities employers have on employees. The reason behind PAT testing regulations can be summed up through the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998:
“Every employer shall ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.”
Who do the PAT Testing Regulations apply to?
Legal responsibility is placed on employers to take reasonable steps to ensure that no danger results from the use of electrical equipment. Meaning that employers must have all electrical appliances regularly checked for faults.PAT tests can include low risk environments, such as offices and public buildings to high risk environments that deal with heavy machinery.
