    How To Become Gas Safe Registered

    Route 1 to becoming Gas Safe registered

    Category 1 Applicant

    BPEC – Domestic Gas Foundation

    Suitable for plumbers/ bathroom and kitchen fitters and individuals with a mechanical services background.

    No formal qualifications are necessary but the candidate must be able to demonstrate competency in plumbing or an associated industry.

    Candidate must undertake assessment for suitability at the RF Training Centre.

    Workshop Based Training

    If suitable the candidate will attend a 20 day Domestic Gas Foundation course certified by BPEC to build core gas competencies.

    On-Site Training

    Candidate must complete on-site portfolio to be completed under supervision by a Gas Safe Registered Installer. Please note that RF Training are able to assist in this area.

    Workshop Based Training

    Candidate undertakes 5 day specific initial training and assessment for CCN1 – Core Gas Safety.

    Candidate undertakes 5 day initial training and assessment for domestic appliances, CEN1, CKR1, HTR1, WAT1

    Candidate applies for Gas Safe Registration

    Route 2 to becoming Gas Safe registered

    Category 2 Applicant

    New entrant into the industry

    No previous experience

    RF Training has developed a unique Fast Track Gas Installers training programme that allows new entrants to the gas industry to ultimately achieve their gas qulifications in the fastest possible time.

    STEP ONE

    RF Training has designed a bespoke 6-week plumbing & gas training course that incorporates the BPEC Gas Foundation. This programme ensures that you obtain essential plumbing and central heating installation skills as part of the training course. You will learn all practical and legislative aspects of gas supply and installation.

    STEP TWO

    Build your on-site portfolio with the assistance of a Gas Safe Registered engineer. This is a legal requirement as part of your training. If you do not know a Gas Safe Installer that will help you build your portfolio then RF Training will ensure you get a placement.

    STEP THREE

    Upon successful completion of your on-site gas portfolio return to the training centre. You will complete your initial ACS Training & Assessment. ACS is the Accredited Certification Scheme – these are your Gas Qualifications. You will undertake your core gas safety (CCN1) and 4 domestic elements (Central Heating, Cookers, Fires and Water Heaters). Individual gas appliances are categorised – you cannot work on an appliance unless you hold the correct certificate.

    STEP FOUR

    Apply to Gas Safe for registration in your own right or you may work under an employer’s registration by holding the correct ACS qualifications.
